Windows Hello & Mobile Passkey Enrollment Support

User enrollment support for Windows Hello for Business and mobile passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator — helping users complete PIN setup, sync Company Portal, validate sign-in options, and confirm the new credential works.

01

Context

As enterprises roll out passwordless, users need help finishing Windows Hello PIN setup on their laptops and enrolling mobile passkeys on their phones. Most of the friction is not the credential itself — it's group membership, Company Portal sync state, or a user who isn't sure what they're being asked to do.

02

Challenge

Get users through enrollment cleanly and leave them confident enough to actually use the new sign-in method the next day.

03

My role

Endpoint and identity support technician handling the user side of passwordless enrollment.

04

What I did

  • Confirmed the user's device had synced with Company Portal before enrollment.
  • Verified the user was in the required access group for Windows Hello enrollment.
  • Walked users through Windows Hello PIN setup via Sign-in options.
  • Guided mobile passkey enrollment in Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Validated sign-in end to end and answered day-two adoption questions.

05

Workflow / approach

  1. 01

Confirm group membership and Company Portal sync

Verify the user sits in the required access group and Company Portal has synced recent policy.

  2. 02

    Start Windows Hello PIN setup

Walk the user through Sign-in options → Windows Hello PIN and complete setup.

  3. 03

    Enroll a mobile passkey

Add a passkey in Microsoft Authenticator, coordinating a TAP when required for enrollment.

  4. 04

    Validate sign-in

Sign in with Windows Hello and confirm the passkey path works.

  5. 05

    Reinforce adoption

Explain what the prompt means, why the PIN is safe, and when to use each method.

06

Outcome and value

Users sign in without typing a password, the credential is device-bound, and the desk isn't relitigating the same enrollment for the same user next week.

07

What this demonstrates

  • Hands-on familiarity with Windows Hello for Business and passkey enrollment paths.
  • Cross-plane comfort — Entra ID group membership, Company Portal sync, and endpoint sign-in options.
  • Focus on adoption, not just cutover.
